Hullabaloo is BACK and ready for a sweet summer term filled with songs of reconnection, reflection, reconciliation and rejoicing!
This term, Hullabaloo will be celebrating our Real Life return with songs of friendship – from ‘40s doowop to Woodstock classic, cinematic theme tune to folk anthem! We’ll also be featuring a short set of songs that honour pioneering women and we’ll be breathing Real Life into our lockdown anthem Together Apart – written by our Musical Director Kirsty Martin.
As well as all this, we’ll be forming a special band – The Eclectics – with Robb Johnson on guitar – to accompany our songs and we’ll be rehearsing towards a gig on July 16th at St George’s Church in Kemptown. The gig’ll be called Our Friends Eclectic (y’see what we did there…!)
We know that not everyone will be able to join us ‘In the Room’ so we’ll be running this term as a ‘Room and Zoom’ term. This means that if you are still isolating, or if you don’t live in Brighton, you can join in via Zoom, live and direct from our rehearsal space. We worked hard last year to make this a really satisfying experience for both Roomers and Zoomers, so we hope to hit the ground running with what we learned last year!
We want to keep it really flexible, so you’ll be able to exchange your booking from Zoom to Room, or vice versa, for any week you like. Zoomers will be invited to be part of the Real Life concert, and, if not, there’ll be a virtual component too.
We’d really love to welcome returning Hullabaloo members, as well as regular Hulla folk and brand new singers! We’d especially like to welcome more men, and more high singers – but everyone is welcome in the Hulla Tribe! Let’s get the band back together!See you Monday 17th!
Please email email@example.com with your first and last name and phone number, stating if you are booking for a taster session or for the whole term. You will receive a booking confirmation email with payment details. After payment, you will receive a registration confirmation email and weekly Zoom emails on Sunday evenings.
We would like a balance of parts (as much as possible) and we have limited spaces, as we shall all be socially distanced.
VERY IMPORTANT: Participants will be asked to agree to the PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS and to read and comply with our RISK ASSESSMENT upon booking.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your first and last name, phone number and preferred voice part (High, Mid or Low), stating if you are booking for a taster session or for the whole term and that you have read the Risk Assessment and agree to the Participation Conditions.
The government, in their wisdom, have backtracked on their previous assurances and, illogically, frustratingly (and many oath ridden other adjectives) have slipped in a ridiculous limit of a maximum of 6 singers rehearsing indoors, just for amateur singers. All choirs/ MDs etc are livid and are battling to have this unfair and unreasonable guidance statement lifted (something similar happened in September and the Govt backtracked then, so here’s hoping!). Therefore we need to change venue, for the short term – our rehearsal on Monday 24th May will be at Friends’ Meeting House Garden, Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1 AF
As soon as permitted, we’ll return to St Bartholomew’s.
We have secured the use of St Bartholomew’s Church, Ann St, Brighton BN1 4GP (click photo for map). It doesn’t have its own car park but London Rd and Trafalgar St car parks are nearby and London Rd is accessed by multiple bus services and London Rd railway station is nearby.
